Khoai: a simple ruin bar

Opened in April 2019, Khoai is tucked between street food and shops on Thao Dien’s Quoc Huong street. It has quickly become a favorite among locals and international expats. They serve an extensive menu of reasonably-priced regional and craft beers made in Vietnam, including bottles of Hue’s Huda, Pasteur Street’s Jasmine IPA and Tê Tê on draft, Bia Hoi (fresh beer) and many more, as well as Western and Hanoi-style Vietnamese dinner and snacks. There is no happy hour, but it’s not needed given their pricing (menu photos below).

The staff is very friendly. Food is made fresh and can take a while. A great music playlist at a reasonable volume. Comfortable seating and well-planned “ruin bar” decor with string lights and salvaged items make a great atmosphere. There’s no AC as most of the bar is open-air, but several fans are mostly effective. Dog-friendly.

They also have a location in the Binh Thanh District.
